Google Chrome Will Welcome The Web To Virtual Reality

Google Chrome Will Welcome The Web To Virtual Reality

2016 is the year when Virtual Reality finally announced it's here to stay. We saw the mainstream release of the Oculus Rift, the HTC Vive, Samsung's Gear VR as well as Android's Daydream Project. But hardware will only be much ado about nothing if there are not enough VR content to experience the newest dimension brought about by technology. Google has been quick to realize this and has been consistently working on building a VR ecosystem to allow web and content developers a place to showcase their own interpretation of virtual reality.

After showcasing its VR platform Daydream this year in I/O, Google will be including a more immersive web browsing experience in its ambitions for VR. According to website, the latest versions of Chrome Beta and Chrome Dev for Android have a couple of features that can enable a web experience in VR.

The latest version of Chrome Beta now comes with WebVR abilities to allow for more engaging web content, in website that are designed to run on virtual reality. Chrome Dev now comes with a 'VR Shell' that would allow Cardboard and Daydream headsets users to browse the web on VR.

The VR shell isn't functional as of yet, but it is only a matter of time that it finds itself in the stable Beta releases, along with other VR features. As of now, the non-VR websites cannot be experienced on the headsets, but the VR shell by Google will accommodate even those non-VR sites as well.

Google also revealed that Google Play will get an exlcusive and dedicated VR section, for easy discoverability of VR content.
