Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Convertible Overview

It was the Evoque that helped the ailing Jaguar-Land Rover to engineer a turnaround along with the Jaguar XF. The Evoque was revolutionary for its day when all other SUVs from the British carmaker were old, crude and boxy. With its modern styling, uber cool looks and compact dimensions, the Evoque went on to become the Tata-owned company’s bestseller across the globe. Land Rover has now gone a step ahead to create probably the first ever modern day convertible SUV.
The Range Rover Evoque Convertible SUV is based on the three-door Evoque. The front fascia of the thick mesh grille and the signature swept back headlamps with the LED daytime running lamps is exactly same. The bold shoulder line standing above the flared wheel arches has been retained. While the tail lamps are also the same, the rear fenders have been completely redesigned to incorporate the folding roof while retaining the shape of the Evoque. The roof goes down in 18 seconds and comes up in 21 and also allows a 25q-litre boot-space in either case.
The interior is plush and can be customised through a wide range of upholstery and colour options. It gets a 10.2 inch capacitive touch-screen system embedded in the dashboard and gets USB and Bluetooth connectivity along with Apple Car Play and Android Auto. The black interiors get silver accents for the premium look and the three-spoke steering wheel with audio and cruise controls. Along with the safety net of ESP and airbags, you also get a rollover protection system which deploys within 90 milliseconds in case.
The Evoque convertible gets the new 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is now available in India under the hood of the Jaguar XE. The petrol engine develops 240bhp to power the SUV past 100kmph in 7.8 seconds to a top speed of 180kmph. Mated to a ZF nine-speed gearbox, the Evoque Convertible gets the Active Drive-line feature.
The Evoque has no real competition in the segment and the good news is that there has been one of those spotted testing in India. Which means, the Evoque Convertible will soon be seen gracing our streets.
