The Chinese handset maker, Xiaomi had been teasing the launch of a prime device in India lately and today the cover has been dropped. Today, the brand has gone ahead and launched the new device, which is called Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime. This handset is almost identical in looks to Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G that was launched a long back. Here is a brief overview of the handset to understand the difference between both handsets.
Design
As we have already mentioned that the handset is almost identical to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G smartphone that was launched earlier by the brand. It features the same glossy polycarbonate make that the previous device featured.
Display
The handset maker has equipped the new smartphone with the same 5.5-inch display that featured on the previous Redmi Note handset. Its display offers a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, which means users can enjoy HD content without any quality loss.
User Experience
The handset manufacturer has pre-installed the dated Android 4.4 Kitkat operating system, which is an improvement over Android 4.2 Jelly Bean which came in Redmi Note 4G. Moreover, the Android OS has been skinned with Xiaomi's own MIUI interface, which is known for its ease of usage and performance enhancements.
Performance and Battery Life
Coming to the processor of the handset, The new Redmi Note Prime comes with a slower Quad-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. The processor has been coupled with a massive 2 GB of RAM to ensure that the device performs without any kind of lag. It also comes with a 3100 mAh battery that can easily last a day on a full charge.
Camera Technology
Coming to camera resolutions, Xiaomi Redmi Note Prime features a 13 Megapixels primary camera on its rear panel. The front panel of the handset also features a 5 megapixels snapper that is a delight for selfie lovers.
Connectivity
Just like the earlier device, this handset too comes with support for only single SIM and also facilitates 4G LTE/3G connectivity for faster Internet browsing. The handset also features other connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, microUSB and Wi-Fi Direct.
Verdict
Quite frankly we did not get the logic behind launching this handset since brand has already launched a nearly identical smartphone in past. Xiaomi would have benefited a lot if it had launched a brand new handset in the market. However, now we cannot predict whether the Indian customer would take to a new device that is slightly revamped variant of a handset that has been discontinued by the brand.
